“The Germans struck again at the end of the week. Uncle Jake told us when he came in the kitchen for lunch. He'd been over at the fort all morning and terrible reports began to come in."
My name is Jamie Bledsoe and I teach sixth grade English at a middle school in Illinois. Very recently, my students participated in an "Author Study" project where they read multiple books by the same author. One of my students chose YOU as somebody who they wanted to study and complete a project on. Without any further adu, the following letter is one which was developed by one of my students who is anxiously hoping for a response from you. If you have the opportunity, I'm positive that he would appreciate your thoughts! Thank you SO much!
Dear Janet Taylor Lisle,
Your books are great! You put so much emotion in the protagonist and antagonist. When you talk about how the characters look, I can see them. When you say they're feeling an emotion, I put myself in their shoes and all of a sudden, I'm feeling it too. The protagonists in your books are SO heroic and the antagonists SO evil they send chills down my spine. You use efficient words and you put them in at the right moment. I have read The Art of Keeping Cool and Black Duck for an author study project. Whereas my partner read The Afternoon of the Elves and Black Duck. Also, we enjoyed them a lot! Thank you for reading our letter. Please write back!
What I thought amazing is how you captured what it felt like to be young during WW II. I still remember when my Japanese American playmate "disappeared" and no one would explain why--although my mother seemed to approve of the shuttering of the business and the empty house (and we lived in Ohio--so I guess Abel Hoffman would not have been safe there, either.)Can hardly wait to learn of my grandsons' reactions to this fine novel. Now am reading Black Duck.
I know this is a comment page but i have some questions for yo uso if you could please let me know how i could ask you those questions and get a reply that would be great. It's for a school project
